(VDL) ORESTUS

Indoctro x Ramiro Z

Olympic Games horse (VDL) Orestus is a world class stallion that has competed at the highest level, Olympic Games, CSI**** and Puissance! A stunning looking stallion with lots of quality and top class pedigree such as Indoctro x Ramiro Z x Erdball!

ORESTUS ~ another performance-bred prospect was sourced from the world-famous VDL Stud. Like his Highland View Lodge stable companions, Orestus has a superb pedigree and temperament combined with a brilliant jumping technique and performance career that saw him compete at the very top.

"Orestus is the best horse I have ever ridden in my life. Since the first time I sat on his back, it was an unbelievable feeling as his style of jumping and scope are something special.
He is such a big character. No matter how big and wide the fences are, he fights for you and always gives 110% in the ring. For myself, I felt lucky to have the chance to ride a horse with his qualities which made me very confident jumping at my first Olympic Games.
And if I need to do it again, I will choose Orestus. No doubt about it."
- Juan Andres Rodriguez

Orestus is one of a handful of Irish-based stallions to have competed at the Olympic Games! His career, competing up to 1.60m level, saw Orestus in action around the world from the Pan-Am Games in Rio de Janeiro to the Beijing Olympics.
Orestus had the versatility to place in a variety of classes from Puissance to 1.50m classes at international shows such as Madrid, s’Hertogenbosch and Oslo in Europe; in World Cup qualifiers, (placed sixth in the 2007 Monterrey qualifier, won by Hong Kong silver medallist, Ninja) and at the 2007 Pan American Games (individual 15th place & member of the sixth-placed Guatemala team).
Orestus, with Juan Andrés Rodriguez, also claimed 42nd place at the 2008 Olympics.
With the thousands of horses on the international show jumping circuit whittled down to some 80 of the world’s best for the Olympics, it’s an amazing achievement to compete at that level. And if breeders look at the impact made by the progeny of such Olympic stallions as Darco, Quito de Baussy and Touchdown, they must consider stallions proven at these levels.
ORESTUS has a pedigree, consisting of the best European and Thoroughbred bloodlines, that has delivered on it’s promise.
Not only does his pedigree consist of 49% TB blood, but it also contains some of the leading sires in modern warmblood history. This combination of quality and performance lines also includes a double dose of the famous sires, Ramzes and Cottage Son on both sides of his pedigree.
Indoctro is a combination of the best European lines with the powerful Capitol I, refinement of Ramzes and technique of Cor de la Bryere all represented in his pedigree.

This Preferent sire has already produced several Olympic horses - Orestus, Don Porfirio and Picolien Zeldenrust (Beijing) and Nike (Athens). His progeny also include the 2005 KWPN Horse Of The Year - BMC Nassau - the 2005 European Championships individual and team bronze medallist; Black Ice, (President’s Cup winner at the 2007 Washington International Horse Show) and Casadora.
Like Orestus, Casadora was in action at the 2007 Pan American Games and was on the bronze medal-winning team.
More consistent prizewinners on the United States Grand Prix circuit include Nadia, Youp and VDL Orame.  The latter,  winner of the Culpepper $100,000 Invitational Grand Prix, shares the same bloodlines as Orestus as both are out of Ramiro Z dams.
Another of Chris Kappler’s Indoctro winners is Maserati - a full-brother to Orestus! In the 2006 Grand Prix at the prestigious Zwolle Stallion Show, three of Indoctro’s sons were in the top 20 placings - the full brothers, Orestus and Maserati, plus VDL Orame.
Indoctro regularly features in the WBFSH (9th in 2008, 15th in 2009) and the United States Equestrian Federation showjumping sire rankings (2nd in 2007, 10th in 2008) and in the top three Holstein rankings.
Celrite.  This Keur Preferent Prestatie dam has produced proven performers on both sides of the Atlantic and like Indoctro, her blueblood pedigree is packed with the best of bloodlines.
Her ‘Stallion of the Century’ sire, Ramiro Z produced the superstar, Ratina Z.  He also goes back to two more leading influences in modern showjumping - the famous Anglo-Arab, Ramzes and the legendary Cottage Son, who traces back to the ubiquitous Dark Ronald. !

Ramzes also features in the damline of Libero H, (sire of Jessica Kuerten’s superstar, Libertina) and another world-class mare, Jan Tops’ Operetta la Silla.
The famous Thoroughbred sire, Erdball, produced Nick Skelton’s multiple medal-winning partner, multiple Grand Prix and dual Hickstead Derby winner, Apollo and Just Malone. Helena Weinberg’s great character also notched up numerous wins in the 1980s including the Rome and Wiesbaden Grand Prix classes and the German national championship. Erdball is also the damsire of VDL Groep Powerfee, ridden by Samantha McIntosh.
Another HVL sire with a world-class pedigree, the Olympic horse ORESTUS is yet another exciting stallion prospect for HVL Stud.
Orestus is fully approved by Horse Sport Ireland, the Swedish Warmblood Association (SWA).
